CLASSIC FUNK/SOUL RELEASED ON CD FOR THE FIRST TIME FROM THE ORIGINAL MASTER TAPES

Kwick were Vince Ricari Williams, Terry Bartlett, William Sumlin and Bertram Brown from Memphis, Tennesse. Prior to Vince joining the group they were known as The Newcomers and worked at Stax Records offering both studio and live support. They also had a hit single in 1971 with “Pin The Tail On The Donkey”. Their heroes were The Barkays who inspired them to continue their career and reform as Kwick after the demise of Stax.
     “Kwick” and “To The Point” were recorded for EMI America records in 1980 and 1981 respectively. They stayed in Memphis for these sessions and worked with producer Allen Jones, frequently credited with producing The Barkays having also worked consistently at Stax/Volt Records.
     Strings and horns are arranged and conducted by Grammy nominated Carl Marsh who is similarly credited on such original soul classics as “Sittin’ On the Dock Of The Bay”, “In the Midnight Hour”, “Knock On Wood” and also worked for James Brown, The Temptations, Isaac Hayes and The Spinners.
     From “Kwick”, singles were “Can’t Help Myself”, “I Want To Dance With You”, “We Ought To Be Dancing” and “Let This Moment Be Forever”. From “To The Point” came “Nightlife”, “Shake Till Your Body Break” and “I Chose You”. “Nightlife” is one of their most fondly remembered tunes with its funky boogie groove that some DJs used to spin at a slower speed, and the album track “We’re Saying Goodbye Again” further motivation for Expansion to bring these two LPs together and release on CD for the first time.
