Reinventing herself after a lifetime on Atlantic Records and an unreleased WMOT Dexter Wanzel album that drove her temporarily out of the music industry and into school teaching, this 1982 don't-call-it-a-comeback album taps into the same electro/hip-hop inflected grooves that revealed Barbara Mason to a younger audience. Just enough drum machine programming and electronics have seeped into the mix to let the southern soul take a decidedly modern electro turn- and enough ol' fashioned soul belting remains for her longtime loyal fans. The standout song "Knockout" was an urban AND southern hit. In the bonus mixes here, of "Knockout" and "Moove to the Groove" you can hear the way electro and hip-hop started to blend into the soul-scene. Truly a knockout!
