Cameo - Ugly Ego & Secret Omen.
Formed in 1974 in New York, USA. Originally called New York City Players, but changed to The Players after a lawsuit against them, by the Ohio Players. Has released 17 albums between 1977 and 2000. Their definitive hit is 1986's "Word Up". In the '00s, Cameo-bassist Aaron Mills started collaborating with OutKast.
• Robinsongs & Cherry Red are excited to announce the release of Cameo’s "Ugly Ego” and "Secret Omen” albums as a two on one.
• "Ugly Ego” was originally released in 1978 and "Secret Omen” in 1979. "Secret Omen” featured the Top 3 R&B single ‘I Just Want To Be’ and the Top 10 R&B hit ‘Sparkle’. The "Ugly Ego” album featured the Funk Anthem ‘Insane’.
• "Secret Omen” was certified Gold in America and was the Bands first, but many Gold & Platinum albums followed. Cameo formed in 1974 under the name of New York City Players, but changed the name to Cameo to avoid a lawsuit from the Ohio Players. Originally there were thirteen members to the group, but over time the numbers dwindled down to the three main men Tomi Jenkins, Nathan Leftenant & creator and front man Larry Blackmon (and that cod piece)
• Cameo’s style was very much in the Funk mould, and the Group were as highly regarded as Parliament, Funkadelic, Bar-Kays, Ohio Players, Earth, Wind & Fire, Slave, The Isley Brothers, Rick James etc.
• This re issue features liner notes from Mojo’s Lois Wilson.
