• In the space of just eight years, the incomparable Nancy Wilson recorded a remarkable 23 albums for Capitol Records starting in 1960.  Acknowledged as second only to The Beatles in terms of sales for Capitol, Nancy worked consistently with producer David Cavanaugh (and renowned arrangers including Phil Wright, Jimmy, Jones, Oliver Nelson and Sid Feller) to create albums that showcased her distinctive vocal style on contemporary hits of the day as well as new material and jazz and pop standards.

• Her 24th  and 25th Capitol LPs were respectively SON OF A PREACHER MAN and HURT SO BAD, both making their worldwide CD debut on this two-on-one set, part of the on-going mining of Nancy’s Capitol catalogue by SoulMusic Records.  

• The title track (a cover of the 1968 Dusty Springfield hit), SON OF A PREACHER MAN found Nancy reinterpreting in her own inimitable way songs mostly associated with country music such as ‘Make The World Go Away’ (a 1965 hit for Eddy Arnold)  and ‘By The Time I Get To Phoenix,’ a country and pop smash for Capitol label-mate Glen Campbell.  HURT SO BAD focused on hits of the day such as ‘You’re All I Need To Get By’ (the Marvin Gaye-Tammi Terrell classic), ‘Spinning Wheel’ (a hit for Blood, Sweat & Tears) and the title track, previously cut by Little Anthony & The Imperials.    

• Notes by US writer Mervin Malone set the musical context for Nancy’s late ‘60s work.
