Leonard Cohen was a Canadian singer, songwriter,musician, poet, novelist and painter. 
By 1988 Leonard Cohen had undergone something of a renaissance in North America. 
He started his music career in his 30s after first being a poet. His song "Hallelujah" became a timeless classic despite its slow initial reception. 
Cohen also spent five years living as a Zen Buddhist monk, reflecting his deep
spiritual interests.
