Norman Connors delivered some of the finest jazz fusion of the 1970s, often integrated with vocalists and soloists he would discover and send on their way to significant solo success. After touring as drummer with Pharaoh Sanders and featuring on five of his albums, Norman landed at Buddah Records in 1972 then after the acquisition of Buddah by Arista in the late 70s he arrived at the main Arista imprint in 1980 and delivered these two classic albums “Take It To The Limit” and “Mr.C”, the pinnacle of his work as a musician, co-ordinator, and producer of live music pre the dawn of programmed drumming and keyboard replicaters.
      Three more outstanding new vocalists are brought to our attention through these albums, Adaritha, Glenn Jones and Beau Williams, while instrumentally Norman is at his peak with “Black Cow” (featuring Freddie Hubbard) and “Mr. C” (featuring the Starship Orchestra). Norman recognised “You Bring Me Joy” as an outstanding song some years before Anita Baker recorded it”, and “Melancholy Fire” was the ultimate ‘two step’ soul record years before anyone knew what a two stepper was! And The Jones Girls just sound amazing on everything.
     These two albums fit seamlessly together as one body of work at a special time for jazz fusion, they are massive sounding pieces of high energy soul jazz fusion from a true master of the genre.
